One woman has launched a campaign to promote exercise and healthy eating after surviving a stroke. She says simple lifestyle changes can help save the public hefty medical bills in the long run.
Never give up never give in. This is the message that Claudia Herrance from Jacmel is sending to her fellow St. Lucians. 3 years ago she served as an instructor of a fitness group when she suffered a massive stroke. But she did not give up. When the time for the annual pine hill fun walk came along Herrance refused to throw in the towel. Using her walking aid she completed the entire journey from Vigie to pigeon island. She says had it not been for her determination to keep up her healthy lifestyle she would not have been alive
With the Independence celebrations coming up Herrance is planning a walk in her community. Her plea to her fellow countrymen to engage in regular exercise comes at a time when diabetes and other non communicable diseases are on the rise in St. Lucia
Just recently the St. Lucia Diabetes and Hypertension Association lamented that St. Lucians are not taking healthy lifestyle messages seriously and this is The Association says contributing to the increase in no communicable diseases here
