St. Lucia’s Former High Commissioner to the UK Dr. Ernest Hilaire is calling on the Government to stand in solidarity with Venezuela despite the political unrest in that country.. Dr. Hilaire says St. Lucia cannot allow itself to be used as a pawn by other countries.
As St. Lucia’s Former High Commissioner to the UK Dr. Ernest Hilaire puts it at some point countries, regardless of their size must stand up for what they believe. He was speaking in the context of the relationship between Venezuela and St. Lucia which he believes is strained at the moment. While acknowledging that Venezuela is faced with its political problems he is optimistic that the country can rise above its challenges.
Dr. Hilaire says all nations should respect each other.. The Former High Commissioner pointed to the UN Charter which stipulates respect for sovereignty
Dr. Hilaire added that countries should not judge each other based on their own traditions
