National Security Minister Senator Hermangild Francis says despite the death of a few foreign nationals on the island, St. Lucia remains a safe place for tourists.
The minister’s comments follows news that the homicide of British national Bob Hathaway may affect visitor arrivals out of the UK which is the island’s second largest tourist market.
Senator Francis has described the incident as unfortunate.
Hathaway was found dead at his Piat Grande Riviere residence on Sunday January 13th.
While no arrests have been made as yet, Senator Francis says investigators are working assiduously to solve the murder.
Francis has taken issue with the manner in which the British press is reporting not only on Hathaway’s death but a number of others including that of Roger Pratt who was murdered in 2014.
The reports he says may cause potential visitors to wonder whether the island is a safe destination to visit.
Despite that, the minister says St. Lucia remains one of the safest destinations in the region.
Senator Francis says he does not expect a major fallout from the death of 66 year old Bob Hathaway.
