St. Lucia will host is first ever Pride march later this year. That’s according to local rights support group United and Strong.
Every year the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community hosts a “Pride Parade”.
The annual event seeks to combat homophobia and to encourage pride among homosexual, bisexual or transsexual individuals.
The activity is usually held in June around the world.
For millions of people around the world, June is a time for gays to be loud and proud.
48 years after the first Pride Parade in New York City, more countries are hosting similar activities and adding their voices in support of the LGBTI community and St. Lucia is no different.
Jessica St. Rose – United and Strong’s Board Secretary, says that the organization is working hard to promote an enabling environment for the LGBTQI community here on Saint Lucia.
United and Strong has planned a series of encounters with policy makers to discuss several pertinent issues.
The first was with leader of the Opposition Philip Pierre.
The organization intends to hold dialogue with Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, Minister for Gender Relations Dr. Gale Rigobert and Minister for Health Senator Mary Isaac in the coming weeks.
