SLP TAKES ISSUE WITH AIRPORT REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The St. Lucia Labour Party has accused the Government of a lack of transparency in its handling of the Hewanorra Airport Redevelopment Project. The Party has raised questions about the tendering process.

The St. Lucia Labour Party says it will support the Hewanorra Airport Redevelopment Project but not in its current form. SLP Leader Philip J Pierre says  during the SLP’s tenure in Office it had started a Private Public Private Sector Partnership arrangement to refurbish the airport at no cost to taxpayers. At that time the SLP had sought help from the World Bank. According to Mr. Pierre the SLP Government remained  committed to making the tendering process transparent. However he has taken issue with the current process which he says has omitted  public procurement procedures. Questions such as how was the contractor chosen and was it the most economical option came up

Mr. Pierre says the Public Private sector Partnership Model is best suited for local circumstances and it has been embraced by Barbados and Jamaica. Mr. Pierre explained why the  SLP chose the PPP model

Mr. Pierre was speaking at Wednesday Morning’s SLP Conference
