The Fire Service Association says it received a letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs confirming that the issue of contracts for probationers has been dealt with. This is among a myriad of issues that fire fighters have been griping about for decades and under successive administrations.

Earlier this week President of the Fire Service Association Shane Felix indicated that the Association would be willing to return to work if Government addresses at least one of the issues that prompted fire fighters strike action. On Friday Mr. Felix confirmed that the Association  received a communique from the Home Affairs Ministry  indicating that it has dealt with the issue of contracts for probationers. However several other matters remain unresolved such as matters relating to promotions and the Leadership issues as well as  salary negotiations. The Association also stated  it has no problem with Government putting contingency plans in place during the time of the industrial action.

The Association  made it clear that this is not a fight against the Government and that contingency plans will not solve the problems . The Association reiterated its  commitment  to ensuring that the issues are resolved

Fire Officers have been  on strike from last Wednesday
