Twenty crew members from the Celebrity Silhouette participated in a cleanup exercise at the Vigie Beach on Friday.
The team was joined by representatives from the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, Ministry of Tourism, Saint Lucia Air & Sea Ports Authority, Saint Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association, Saint Lucia Solid Waste Management Authority, the National Conservation Authority and Cox & company Limited.
Getting off the ship and doing something different at the same time enjoying it was the fun part of the whole idea says the ship’s Destination Concierge.
The indiscriminate littering on the beaches is an eye sore she says and the perpetrators of such actions should think of the future devastation to the marine environment that could result.
Officials of the St. Lucia Tourism Authority say they have also invited other entities who are part of an anti-Litter movement that the SLTA started.
The exercise took place at 10:00 am and continued into the afternoon.
