OPPOSITION LEADER STILL WAITING FOR VAT ELIMINATION PLAN

Leader of the Opposition Philip J Pierre is hoping for the elimination of  VAT when the Debate on the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure gets underway later this month. He is also hoping for a large enough budget allocation for health care.

Leader of the Opposition Philip J Pierre says he expects many promises from the Government when the Debate on the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure takes place later this month. He is also expecting the Prime Minister  to further reduce or eliminate VAT. In  2017, the standard rate of VAT was  lowered from 15 percent to 12.5 percent, resulting in an estimated $52.5 million a year pumped back into the hands of the people.

Mr. Pierre would also like to see A sufficient  allocation made in the budget for health care. He says there is a serious health crisis in St. Lucia and there are efforts to downplay it. The  Owen King EU and the St, Jude Hospitals are yet to be opened and the quality of  health care Mr. Pierre says is being compromised

Mr. Pierre says conditions at the Victoria Hospital and the makeshift George Odlum stadium are deteriorating
