Director General of the OECS Dr. Didacus Jules says there is no quick fix to LIAT’s  financial problems. He says Caribbean Leaders have to find a balance between reducing the airfares and bearing the operating costs

Director  General of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Dr. Didacus Jules has acknowledged that LIAT is an essential service and also agrees that something has  to be done to keep the airline in business. His comments come amid complaints about the exorbitant airfares and a decision by LIAT pilots to take a 10% pay cut in order to keep the cash strapped air carrier operating

But Dr. Jules says there has to be balance. The cost of operating the airports has to be covered while the airfares which mainly comprise taxes need to be reduced. He admits that there is no quick fix to the problem

Dr. Jules says  all CARICOM Heads regardless of their position on the matter agree that LIAT provides a vital service
