POLICE NEED HELP GETTING ILLEGAL GUNS OFF STREETS

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is seeking the assistance of the public in ridding the streets of illegal fire arms.

According to ACP Wayne Charlery, law enforcement officials have recovered many illegal guns, through various means traffic stops and other strategic operations.

However he says a lot more can be done with the assistance of the public.

While emphasis is being put on tightening border security is just a small part of the effort to keep illegal guns off local streets.

Despite hundreds of illegal firearms being removed from the streets through the efforts of the RSLPF, officers say public assistance is still needed.

He challenged members of the public and the media to be more responsible by not glorifying criminality

He was speaking in light of the recent circulation on social media of a video showing masked man armed with several firearms including two automatic rifles.

The island has recorded eight homicides so far for the year, six of which were gun related.
