RELOCATED COCONUT VENDORS SAY NEW LOCATION BAD FOR BUSINESS

Coconut vendors who were relocated from Rodney Bay to Bois D’ Orange say they are not making any money at the new location. They want to be return to Rodney Bay.

The vendors were relocated in February 2019, because of health and safety concerns.

The Bois D’ Orange site was cleared and fitted with running water and toilet facilities for the vendors.

Months after they were relocated to the new site, one vendor say the new site is not working to their benefit.

Mr Florius says when the vendors were operating at the Rodney Bay area; they sold at least two pickup trucks of coconuts a day.

Since moving to Bois D’ Orange, it takes the entire day to sell a quarter of what they did at Rodney Bay.

The Gros Islet Town Council and the Development Control Authority were unavailable for comment.
