CALLS FOR TOUGHER GUN LAWS AFTER CHINESE RESTAURANT ROBBERY

Human rights advocate Felicia Browne is calling for a revision of existing penalties for gun related offences. Miss Browne’s comments follow the armed robbery of the Sea Town Chinese Restaurant on Brazil Street Castries on Sunday. The incident which was caught on camera shows two men, one armed with a knife and the other a hand gun robbing the establishment of an undisclosed sum of cash as well as drinks. The Ministry of Health has partnered with the Tobacco Control Work Group to launch the World No Tobacco Day activities here.  The initiative aims to sensitize the public on the detriments of tobacco use particularly the younger population. GRENADA BACKS LIAT, SAINT LUCIA SAYS NO WAY

Grenada has now become the 5th major shareholder, in LIAT. The revelation was made by Grenada’s Minister for Trade, Industry, and Co-operatives & CARICOM Affairs, Oliver Joseph during the government’s weekly conference on Tuesday May 7th. The announcement comes weeks after chairman of LIAT’s shareholder governments, Dr Ralph Gonsalves requested existing shareholders and other islands being serviced by the airline to increase financial contributions to prevent the closure of the struggling airline. NEW JAZZ VENUE TO BECOME MAJOR CONFERENCE FACILITY

The Events Company St. Lucia Inc. has constructed a new conference facility; the Facility is situated on the Gros Islet Park on the sea shore between the Gros islet town and the Landings hotel.
