A group of bikers visited the La Guerre Primary School on Friday May 10th to read to the students. The visit is part of Reading Month activities and is aimed at encouraging a love for books and reading among students
According to the school’s principal, every year individuals are invited to the school to read to the students.
This year, a group of bikers was invited to engage the students in discussions in addition to reading to them.
Education officials say the initiative is an important step in getting students to make reading a regular part of their lives.
The bikers were welcomed by the students.
With two thirds of the student population being boys, and studies showing that boys consistently read less than girls, Principal Miss Therese Johnny is hoping activities like this can make a difference.
Similar activities will take place throughout a number of schools within district 1.
