SIDEWALK SIGNS TURN OUT TO BE BAD FOR BUSINESS AFTERALL: CCC SAYS TAKE THEM DOWN

The Castries Constituencies Council is discouraging city businesses from erecting standing signs on sidewalks to promote their enterprises. Not only are these signs hazards to pedestrians, but it is also   an offense to erect them; an offence which carries a 1000 dollar fine.

The Castries Constituencies Council is concerned about the hazard that the signs erected on the sidewalks by businesses is posing especially to senior citizens and the differently abled. Even pedestrians without these limitations have sustained injuries. Beyond the danger they pose placement of the signs is a violation of the revised  2013  criminal code section 3(1)  and carries a one thousand dollar fine

The Council is hoping that the entrepreneurs responsible will cooperate by quitting  the practice. Otherwise the City Police will have  no choice but to enforce the law.

The Communications Manager also made reference  to unauthorized vending on the sidewalks. While the Council has made some headway in clearing some sidewalks for use by pedestrians  the problem persists
