FIRE OFFICERS OUT FOR SECOND DAY

Industrial action by fire officers went into its second day on Thursday. Some of the issues that prompted the action are an alleged lack of transparency in promotions, salary increases and alleged victimization.

As industrial action by the Fire Officers goes  into day two President of the Fire Service Association Shane Felix is adamant that members    will not return to work until a satisfactory solution to the problem has been reached.  Mr. Felix  cited transparency in  promotion as one of the pressing issues but Home Affairs Minister Hermangild Francis says the promotion policy is fraught with many challenges. He says Government is working on it  but it will take some time to iron out

Concerns have been raised about the ability of the Fire Service to respond to emergencies given the current situation. Mr. Francis says Fire Officers must keep in mind that their families could be impacted by emergency situations

The President  of the Fire Service Association promised to provide an update  on the matter on Friday
