Minister for Agriculture, Alfred Prospere has announced plans to tackle Saint Lucia’s high food import bill with the commissioning of the Volet Agricultural and Livestock Station. According to the Minister meat imports contribute a major percentage to the food import bill. The establishment of the station this year will help to increase livestock production and consequently decrease the island’s meat imports. It will also help improve the country’s food security.
