French Embassy Commits $1.8m To Combat Gender-Based Violence In Saint Lucia And OECS
The French Embassy in Saint Lucia has committed 1.8 million Eastern Caribbean Dollars to support Civil Society Organizations through the Department of Gender Affairs. This funding is part of the Stop Gender-Based Violence Project, which aims to combat domestic violence in Saint Lucia and the wider OECS. A key objective of the initiative is to shift public attitudes and raise awareness to address this pressing social issue.
SLASPA Terminates Contract With Taiwanese Construction Firm, Delaying Airport Project Until 2025
The Saint Lucia Air and Seaports Authority (SLASPA) has terminated its contract with Taiwanese construction firm Overseas Engineering & Construction Co. (OECC). The company was responsible for constructing the Air Traffic Control Tower under the Hewanorra International Airport Redevelopment Project. SLASPA cited multiple breaches of contract by OECC as the reason for the termination.
A new tender process will be launched to select a contractor to complete the project, which is now scheduled for early 2025. This change is expected to increase the costs of what is already Saint Lucia’s largest public infrastructure project.
