Saint Lucia has recorded its highest-ever homicide toll, with 77 lives lost to gun violence in 2024. The latest victim, 25-year-old Nyim Calendar, was found fatally shot along Marc Road in Bexon around 2 a.m. Saturday. Police have launched an investigation into the tragic incident.
This alarming spike in gun violence highlights a worsening crisis on the island, despite Police Commissioner Verne Garde’s September vow to curb criminal activity. Special Prosecutor Promises To Root Out Corruption
In his first public appearance since being appointed Special Prosecutor, Robert Innocent has revealed that his office is currently investigating several complaints of corruption among public officers. In a televised address, he reminded those in public life of their responsibility to comply with the law and adhere to ethical standards.
