Prime Minister Philip Pierre has sounded the alarm over Saint Lucia’s dwindling population, warning that the trend threatens the sustainability of the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) and the island’s social safety nets. In a wide-ranging press briefing, the PM outlined urgent measures, including a new unemployment insurance program, expanded pension schemes for fishermen, and a crackdown on unregistered workers in the informal sector.
