World AIDS Day Highlights Human Rights in HIV Fight

December 1st, 2024 marks the 36th observance of World AIDS Day, offering an opportunity to reflect on the countless lives lost to AIDS-related causes in Saint Lucia, the region, and across the globe. This year’s theme, “Take The Rights Path,” calls attention to the importance of human rights in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Since the onset of the epidemic nearly 43 years ago, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates that 78 million people have been infected with HIV, and 35 million have died from AIDS-related illnesses.

OECS Launches Skills Project to Boost Blue and Green Economies

The OECS has officially launched the Skills and Innovation Project (SKIP), aimed at addressing gaps in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the region. The initiative focuses on enhancing critical skills for the blue and green economies, promoting innovation, and improving the quality of education. SKIP is set to benefit thousands of young people and businesses within the OECS.

UWP Chairman Leads Protest Against High Fuel Costs

The Chairman of the United Workers Party’s Castries East Constituency led a solo protest on Friday, voicing his concerns over what he described as the excessively high cost of fuel. His demonstration follows a series of similar protests organized by the United Workers Party earlier in the week, aimed at challenging the current administration’s policies.
