The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins today, June 1st, and runs through November 30th. Multiple forecasts, including from NOAA, Colorado State University, the UK Met Office, and Tropical Storm Risk, all predict a below-average to near-normal season. Forecasters expect 6 to 14 named storms, with 3 to 7 possible hurricanes. An expected El Niño pattern is likely to increase wind shear over the Atlantic, suppressing storm development despite warmer ocean temperatures.
