IYANOLA COUNCIL PUSHES AFRICAN HERITAGE STUDIES IN SCHOOLS

A renewed push to strengthen cultural identity is gaining momentum in Saint Lucia, as the Iyanola Council for the Advancement of Rastafari and Pan African People intensifies efforts to see African heritage studies formally introduced into the national school syllabus.
The council, which has championed black culture and historical awareness for over five decades, says its latest consultations mark a critical step toward reshaping how history is taught—and understood—in the region. President Aaron Alexander says the time has come for bold action and unity, arguing that remnants of colonial influence still persist in modern society.
