That could soon change, as the Ministry of Health moves ahead with establishing a population-based cancer registry to track cases and provide reliable data to guide prevention, treatment and resource allocation. The initiative is being welcomed by cancer advocates, who say better data could also strengthen the way support services and funding are targeted.
