Saint Lucia Ready to Help Vincentians in Event of Major Eruption
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet says Government is making provisions to assist St. Vincent and the Grenadines should an explosive eruption take place at La Soufriere volcano and resident have to be evacuated. In December 2020 authorities there became concerned when the volcano rumbled to life. There is an effusive eruption or the slow emission of magma occurring at the site. It is not an explosive eruption which is the more dangerous of the two types of eruptions. The volcano last erupted on April 1979. Fortunately there were no casualties.
